Monterey Peninsula: each September’s surface forest over the retained 2017 footprint.
California Kelp Canopy data on Zenodo, eight September observations from 2017 through 2024, ~3 m Planet Dove-derived classifications. Distribution MD5 checksums verified. Value-1 pixels are counted only inside the eight-year shared survey footprint (6,207.545292 ha in Monterey); WGS84 geodesic pixel areas vary with latitude. Monterey window: 121.98–121.86°W, 36.49–36.64°N. Statistics describe the displayed Monterey window. Geometry simplification is below ~1 m. Annual September observations are compared in sequence. Crossfades transition between observed maps without estimating unobserved within-year values. Surface canopy, underwater biomass and carbon are separate metrics. Coastline is generalized Natural Earth context. Terrain uses the NOAA NCEI Monterey 1/3 arc-second DEM (NAVD88). Land and seafloor contours are spaced at 25 m. Zero is the elevation datum; terrain is a static contextual layer.
