Circle area = nameplate capacity (MW), not electricity generated.

2026.03 · Global Energy Monitor
7,023 map records, including 4,927 operating facilities; the main threshold is 30 MW. Conventional includes storage, run-of-river and their combination. Combined conventional/pumped plants remain separate. Planned means announced or pre-construction. Cross-border facilities are counted once globally. MW denotes power capacity, not storage energy in MWh. Edition-to-edition counts are not additions because the inclusion threshold changed. Rivers use HydroRIVERS v1.0, Strahler order 5 and higher, including tributaries. Contiguous archived display segments (0.008-degree simplification) are merged and simplified by 0.018 degrees for display. Country boundaries are not drawn; Natural Earth 1:50m coastlines outline the land. The fixed network shows river locations, not current discharge or inferred plant-to-river connections.
