Global agricultural trade
Amber exports → teal imports. Width = mass^0.7. Semicircles = national export/import totals. Annual aggregate, not shipping routes.

Trade: FAOSTAT TM, 2024; catalog revision 22 December 2025; downloaded-archive update record 23 December 2025; accessed 12 October 2026. 518 items measured in tonnes, including feed and non-food agricultural goods. Head/count units, region/World aggregates and same-country entries excluded. CC BY 4.0. SORAH aggregation uses export quantity (5910) for each country-pair/item, including reported zeros. When absent, partner import quantity (5610) is used once. Mirror records contribute 9.3% of mass; the two sides are never summed. Russian exports use partner import reports throughout. Missing reports are not zero and coverage is not claimed to be exhaustive. 198 exporters, 198 importers and 18,520 directed pairs. Width uses mass^0.7 plus a minimum; the legend shows 1, 10 and 50 million tonnes. Both semicircle radii use the same sqrt(mass) scale plus a minimum, so area is not exactly proportional. Left amber means exports; right teal means imports. Line colour and particles indicate exporter-to-importer direction, not routes, speeds or historical changes. ForAgri 0.5° forest/farmland-dominated classes form a fixed context layer based on mixed-year inputs, including MIRCA circa 2000. They are not measured 2024 land cover. Pranindita et al. (2025) remains separate research context; its 244 study-selected trade pairs no longer drive the map. HydroRIVERS provides mainstems and tributaries, Strahler order 3+. Subpixel order-3/4 segments below 0.35px are omitted. Rivers do not encode discharge or irrigation. Natural Earth representative country points are not ports or farm locations. Exporters need not be original producers. Gross mass includes re-exports and successive border crossings; it cannot directly measure nutrition, calories, food security or water footprint. Wider ribbons carry larger annual traded mass (width: mass^0.7 plus a minimum). Fine grain fills up to 800 major ribbons and moves from exporter to importer. Grains are neither vessels nor individual transactions or dates; all data represent the same 2024 annual aggregate.
